Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, children have to stay at home whether they attend classes or have fun. When children stay home every day, they will get tired of the constant studying schedule very quickly. However, if there is no consistent learning, children’s learning process is likely to get stagnant. Perhaps parents will question: children and adults learn very differently, so how can parents guide children through their learning process? How should we maintain the balance between children’s fun and study time?

Here, ILK Learning introduces 3 ways that combine education and entertainment for children

1. Combine Stories

Can children understand all the teaching content after the first lesson? This might not be the case all the time. It is difficult for children to realize what they do not understand from solely listening to their teachers in class. When parents guide children prepare for future lessons or for revision, you can invite children to explain teaching content with a story. In this process, children need to process all the information they need to present first, then explain everything with their own words, When children realize that they cannot explain a specific part clearly, they successfully identify parts that they do not understand clearly.

2. Experiential Learning

Experiential learning is a learning method that combines doing, observing and reflecting. Through interesting yet challenging mini-experiments, children can understand different concepts more easily and hold a more significant impression of these concepts. In addition, repeatedly reflecting upon their own actions can effectively train their mindset, and improve children’s ability to self-learn. For example, implementing different games in learning STEM like Minecraft and Roblox can motivate children to keep learning more. 3. Multisensory Learning Most of the time, we use our sight and auditory senses during our learning process. We use our sight to read and our hearing to listen to teachers. If we choose to include more senses, the learning effectiveness will be more significant. For example, when children learn new vocabularies, we can separate the character by structures, and ask children to read out the name of the structure as they write out the vocabulary to enhance their memory. Or have children group the structures together to form that new vocabulary. Children can learn a new vocabulary and train their hand-eye coordination at the same time.
