As the 4th wave of COVID-19 hits Hong Kong, online classrooms have become the first choice for learning, and its popularity keeps rising. Not only school classes, but even interest classes have also moved online. With the seemingly endless suspension of physical school classes, it appears that helping our children get adapted to online learning is every parents’ top priority. However, how can we improve children’s efficiency with online learning? How can we nurture good habits with using electronic products? How can we prevent children from being bored with studying at home? ILK Learning has 5 handy tips for parents to help our children out with online learning: 1. Set Study Goals Parents and children can work together to set study goals and schedule so that children know very clearly what they should do. Parents can regularly reflect upon the study goals with their children, and encourage them when they do well. In addition, parents should observe and adjust the frequency and duration of rest time for children to help children become more concentrated during study sessions. 2. Fixed Study Area It is very important to set aside play and study areas. When children get used to this arrangement, it can improve their concentration for studies as they know what type of activities they should do in the corresponding area. The designated study area should be clean and tidy with only the necessary items for studies to prevent children from getting distracted during class. 3. Stretch Regularly Using electronic devices for a long time period makes children feel tired easily. Parents can make use of the time in between classes to do some stretching with their children. 4. Let The Eyes Rest The blue light emitted by electronic devices is harmful to the eyes. Viewing these screens for a long time can possibly worsen near-sightedness. Parents can make use of the parental control settings in their electronic devices to limit the time children can use those devices. Parents can also purchase anti-blue light screen protectors for their devices. 5. Place A Calendar At A Visible Area At Home Nowadays, the school notifies children their homework deadlines and exam dates with emails, which makes it easier to miss. Parents can mark down these important dates with their children on a calendar. With a calendar placed at a visible area, children will be able to catch up with their work easier. Conclusion Under COVID-19 epidemic, it appears as if online learning will become the new normal, and parents can only try their best to help their children adapt to online learning. Whether these tips are effective, it all comes down to parents. If you are able to keep persevering and repeating these good habits, you can definitely help your children develop positive habits from an early age.
