Magic Caterpillar’s Club (MCC) (1 / 8 sessions)
What is MCC?
Welcome to The Magic Caterpillar’s Club (MCC) at Baby Brain! This enchanting program is inspired by The Magic Caterpillar’s Building Blocks to Literacy, created by the amazing Australian educator Barbara Brann. With over 20 years of research, Barbara has crafted a fun and effective way to set the stage for your child's literacy success!
Why is Literacy Important?
Literacy is the magical key that unlocks the world of reading and writing! It’s essential for your child’s journey in formal schooling, and we want to make sure they have all the right tools to thrive!
Common Challenges in Literacy Learning
In today’s fast-paced world, children often get rushed into reading, phonics, and formal writing before they’re ready. But don’t worry! Our MCC program is here to make a change!
The Magic of Building Blocks
The framework of The Magic Caterpillar’s Building Blocks to Literacy is all about ensuring children are ready to learn. We focus on developing the foundational skills that make literacy acquisition fun and engaging! Here’s what we cover:
- Sound Adventures: Children learn to listen and identify sounds in spoken language, building their phonological and phonemic awareness.
- Visual Explorations: They discover likenesses and differences in visual information, sharpening their observation skills.
- Movement Mastery: From significant body movements to sitting still, we help children develop the motor skills needed for a smooth classroom experience.
- Handwriting Magic: Through visual-motor integration, kids gain control over their hand and finger muscles, paving the way for writing success.
- Print Concepts: Basic understandings of print are introduced, setting the stage for confident reading.
Students who start school without these foundational skills can often feel lost. We’re here to ensure that doesn’t happen!
The Five Levels of Learning
MCC features a structured progression through five exciting levels:
- Intro Level
- Entry Level
- Beginning Level
- Skills Level
- Application Level
Each level builds on the last, ensuring that children develop essential micro-skills in five key areas:
- Talking (Oracy)
- Understanding Print
- Listening (Auditory Skills)
- Looking (Visual Skills)
- Moving (Motor Coordination and Handwriting)
A Strong Foundation for Literacy
Our program creates a “House of Literacy” that is strong from the foundation to the roof. By connecting all the essential elements across the five domains, children engage in a rich, experientially-based learning environment where language and active learning come together in a magical way!
Join us at The Magic Caterpillar’s Club and watch your child bloom into a confident, capable reader and writer!
