DRAMA & DICE ENGLISH D&D English provides the most entertaining and effective way to absorb and communicate in english. BRIAN BURRELLS BACKGROUND Graduated from the University of Utah in 1999 with a BA in Chinese Literature, and a BA in Asian Studies. Can speak English, Khmer, Cantonese, Mandarin, and basic Japanese. 20 years of performing experience, including over 80 tv dramas and movies. Began teaching kindergarten in Hong Kong in 04 1995, and has over 10 years combined experience in teaching English. ADVENTURES IN ENGLISH - METHOD Establish Meaning - Introduce the target language. Story Listening - Students hear the target language in fun and engaging stories. Group Storytelling - Students practice the target language through playing TRPGs. Discussion - The teacher uses 'Question Circling' to reinforce the target language. TECHNIQUES 'Circling' - the practice of asking a series of simple questions about a statement. It provides repetition of the target vocabulary in context and enables students to learn the vocabulary, grammar, and phonology of their new language in a holistic way. 'Staying in bounds' - only using words that the students understand. 'Comprehension checks'- The most direct way of finding out if students understand the language is to ask them what it means. 'Slow' - Even if students know the words that the teacher says, they will not understand if the teacher speaks too quickly. 'Pop-up grammar' - the practice of making very short grammar explanations about the specific vocabulary students are learning at that moment. 'Personalization'- a key way to make the target language interesting and meaningful for students. 'Teach to the Eyes'- a way of connecting with students while talking to them in the foreign language.
